Dress the Models: A Coloring & Collage Book is here and it’s ready for you to download! My printable book includes 48 hand-drawn models sketched from our Forever Fall and New Chapter collections! They are getting ready for their fall photo shoot, and you’re the designer!
There are two ways to play, and you can do both in the same book.
Color her in. Markers, colored pencils, gel pens, whatever you love most. Color in her skin and hair, and if you’re adventurous add some makeup. You can finish in her outfit with those same markers or pencils too. This is the easy way to start but there’s nothing wrong with staying here all season.
Or dress her in paper. This is my favorite. After coloring her skin and hair, it’s time to get her dressed! Lay a piece of tracing paper or vellum over her, trace the shape of her top, then her skirt or pants, or maybe her entire dress or coat. Cut those out and use them as pattern pieces. Now go find your “fabric”: scrapbook paper, sheet music, book pages, packaging, and yes, even junk mail. Tack your vellum pattern pieces down to the scrap paper with a bit of glue stick or removable tape, then cut out with detail scissors. . Paste garment pieces down to her body, starting with largest pieces to smallest. Cut, glue, layer. If you want to start with an outfit first, then color in her skin and hair, you can do that too.
STEP BY STEP VIDEOS
Now, if you are a veteran of the Late Night Crafty Club, you will have seen me craft one of these ladies (or many because I’ve created lots of them!), and if you missed those episodes, I linked some for you. Once you see how fun it is to trace some patterns, create some ‘fabric’ for their garments, and whip up a lovely little outfit, you will be hooked! Inspired by my love of Project Runway, I’ve made paper garments my favorite art practice ever.
I’ve linked a few videos below where I walk through the whole thing from start to finish, including how I trace patterns and pick my papers. Sorry in advance for all the yapping, hopefully one day I will get these edited down to a more focused craft with no chatty chat 😏
Products I Use for this Project:
Vellum Paper
Detail Scissors

Introduction and My Favorite Girl (sharing the backstory and showing my coloring skin/hair too). Note: This one is long. Grab a drink and settle in 😂
Quick Flip Thru (for a quick overview of how they can turn out. I talk through my process and how I accomplished some of them)
For more cozy goodness, be sure to check out our FOREVER FALL and NEW CHAPTER collections, where these lovely ladies got their start!
TIPS FOR GETTING THE MOST OUT OF DRESS THE MODELS:
- Start a scrap stash before you begin. Toss interesting junk mail, packaging, and book pages in a folder so your “fabric store” is ready when you are.
- Color skin and hair on several models in one sitting, then come back and dress them one at a time.
- Save your vellum pattern pieces in an envelope. A good skirt pattern can be reused over and over with different papers. Remember, with a digital product you can print your model multiple times and if you mess up, print her again!
